AUTHOR OF THE MONTH FOR FEBRUARY-- MARY ANNE EDWARDS WITH REVIEWS

Brilliant Disguise
Detective Charlie McClung no longer finds his job fulfilling and has given up finding that “someone” his granny promised he would find. So he leaves behind the big city and his close-knit family and takes a job in a small town police department in Georgia, resigned to live a quiet life in solitude.
Things change when he meets Marian Selby while investigating the mysterious death of her best friend. But Marian swore never to love again after the death of her husband 11 years ago. What seems to be a simple suicide turns into a tangled web of deceit, corruption, and complicated shadows.
Can the two of them come to grips with their feelings for each other before the killer closes in on them?

I was given a book in exchange for an honest review free of persuasion from the author or anyone else affiliated with this book.

Marian Selby's life is turned upside down after a disturbance in her neighborhood.  Neighbors and police have gathered and she discovers the horrible news that her friend and neighbor Dianne is dead.  The police rule it a suicide and close the case, but Marian knows it is not a suicide.  It is a good thing Detective Charlie McClung is on the case because it seems like he is the only one who will dig a bit deeper into the mystery.    Marian and Charlie work on the case together secretly, but danger is right around the corner.

I loved this book.  It is a character driven story, and the mystery is the backdrop for romance.  The reader gets to know Marian and Charlie at the same time the characters are getting to know each other as they investigate a crime.  The characters are refreshingly real. They have flaws which makes them genuine and endearing.  It is a fantastic first book in the Charlie Clung series.  I am looking forward to reading the next book in the series, A Good Girl.

I was pleasantly surprised by this book.  It was a very good crime suspense novel.  The author kept you guessing all the way through the book.  I thought many times that I had it all figured out only to be wrong.  The story line flowed smoothly and kept the pages turning.  The characters were well developed.  I cant wait to start the next book in this series!

Marian has lost everyone she has ever cared about.  Her parents are gone.  Her husband is gone. And now the neighbor that she cared for like a sister has been murdered.  The chief is calling it a suicide, but Marian knows that Dianne would never kill herself.  How does she get the chief to reopen the case?  He is wrong!  How does a woman that thinks she is strong learn to love again?

Charlie McClung is a detective.  A very good detective.  He has had his fill of crime in the big city and decides to move to a small town.  On the job for only 2 weeks, a young wife and mother is murdered.  The chief pushes him off of the investigation and closes the case saying it is a suicide.  The evidence says otherwise.  Who is the chief trying to protect?  Why?  Charlie decides to keep digging secretively.  Does he solve the crime?  Who helps him?  How does he handle the neighbor that is determined to get the case reopened?

I recommend this book to anyone that likes a suspense crime novel type of book.  I thoroughly enjoyed it and cant wait to start the next McClung book!  This is the first book of Mary Anne Edwards that I have read, but it will not be the last!!!

Absolutely brilliant!  I've never really gotten into mystery/detective novels but this one was great!  It had the detective's side of looking at the crime but also from a civilian point of view.

This story is very well written.  It is suitable for all ages. There are a few curse words but the female character takes offense so the male character apologizes.  I really got into the story and really enjoyed it.  It was not dark and disturbing.  Even though it involved crime, it is as if the story was written during the day and not the dark of night.  I think the characters were very believable.

I think Mary Anne Edwards had done an exceptional job.  I am looking forward to reading more books in this series

 A Good Girl
For Charlie McClung, going home to Virginia with Marian was supposed to be a joyous occasion, but upon arrival at his childhood home, he’s met with a note instead of his family.

“Don’t worry, Love, we’re all okay. Come to the shop. A dead girl was found in an armoire delivered just now. Huggies, Ma”

Charlie is quickly recruited to help solve the murder of a young girl who was on the path to become a nun. The suspects begin to mount as Charlie delves deep into the girl’s life, revealing a sordid and ugly side of the town’s good girl.

Charlie is taking Marian home to meet his family.  They don't even get a proper introduction before a dead body turns up at a local antiques store.  Although it not Charlie's case, it is his hometown so he is quickly asked by Luke to help out with the investigation.  It is a small town that does not see a lot of homicides, so Charlie's help is needed.  In the meantime, Marian gets to know Charlie's family.

This is the second book in the Charlie McClung series, but it can be read as a stand alone.  I would, however, highly recommend reading the first one , Brilliant Disguise, for the background on Marian and Charlie's romance. (Also because it is a very entertaining read!)  I loved this book.  It is so nice to meet Charlie's family and explore his hometown while a mystery unfolds.  The book was paced well. The author fleshed out the characters even more in this second book in the series.  Their chemistry is undeniable which makes the story so enjoyable to read. I am looking forward to reading Criminal Mind, the next book in the series.  I am hooked on this author and the McClung Mysteries.

Another great book by Mary Anne Edwards!  She is quickly becoming one of my favorite suspense crime novelist.  This book kept me pulled in throughout the whole book.  I couldn't figure out "who dun it" and I loved that about this book.  I kept trying to figure out the murderer only to be wrong again!  The love and family aspect added a whole other layer to the story.  I can't wait to start the next novel in this series!

Marian is finally going to meet Charlie's family.  The day they are to go to a victim is found.  The victim is found in an antique that was delivered to The Antique Store that is owned by Charlie's family.  Although Charlie isn't a detective for that police force, he spends his vacation helping his brother try to track down the murder.  Meanwhile, Charlie's mom and family keeps Marian entertained.  Is the murder found?

The dynamics of Charlie's family is amazing.  I really enjoyed this book and recommend it to others.

After reading the first book in the series, I was really looking forward to this one.  The mystery itself can be stand alone.  It is the development of the characters and their lives that make this part of a great series.  I have found that I really do like detective mystery books after reading these two books!

This book was engrossing and hard to put down.  I loved every page! It was a very easy read as opposed to dark and dangerous books.  I am looking forward to the next book in this series.  I can't wait!!

Good work, Ms Edwards!!

Criminal Kind
It’s the perfect setting for a romantic getaway at sea: Caribbean breezes, clear blue skies, passionate nights, and murder? Not exactly what Detective Charlie McClung and Marian had in mind for their honeymoon. When one of their fellow passengers is murdered on her 35th wedding anniversary, Charlie and Marian get pulled into the investigation. Who would want to kill poor Tammy Ferguson in such a brutal way? As Charlie uncovers more sordid details about Tammy and her husband, Peter, it becomes clear that someone else has found the same skeletons in the Ferguson’s closet and Tammy has paid the price. Is Peter next?

Trapped on the ship with a killer, shadows seem more ominous and even the most innocent faces seem sinister. Has Charlie inadvertently put Marian in harm’s way? How long does Charlie have before the hunter becomes the hunted?

Charlie McClung and his new wife Marian are on a cruise on their honeymoon when another mystery develops.  The book just begins when a woman is found dead in her cabin.  She was celebrating her wedding anniversary and is believed to have died from an allergic reaction.  Good thing Detective McClung is on the ship as well as Watson, a medical coroner.  They will get to the bottom of the mystery.

This is the third book in the Charlie McClung Mysteries. It can be read as a standalone, but I highly suggest reading all of them in order as you get to see Charlie and Marian's relationship evolve.  Also they are all entertaining reads.  This is my favorite McClung book so far.  They just keep getting better.  The writing is descriptive and allows me to picture everything.  The characters are strong.  I adore Marian.  She is strong, fun, and persistent.  I am hooked on this series and can't wait for the next one.

Another good crime novel from Mary Anne Edwards.  I love her Charlie McClung novels.  I couldn't put the book down.  I anxiously turned pages to find out who dun it.  The murder weapon in this book was amazing.  I mean, who would have thought of that?!  This book did end in some what of a cliff hanger with unanswered questions.  I cant wait for the next book to find out what happens next.

Marian and Charlie are on a 10 day honeymoon cruise.  What a better way to celebrate their nuptials?!  That is until someone ends up dead.  Murdered?  What the killer didn't anticipate was the fact that there was a detective and medical examiner on board.  Who killed a woman that didn't seem to have any enemies?  How?  Why?

I can't wait for the next Charlie McClung novel.  Mary Anne Edwards is a very good crime, suspense author and I look forward to reading more of her work.  I highly recommend this book!

This is book three in a series I have enjoyed completely.  This book can be read as a stand alone but you will miss out on the development of the characters if you don't read the first two books.

These books are very well written and I have been glad to read every word!!  I'm not usually into detective type novels but this series of stories has been a pleasure to read.  Once I read the first two, I knew I had to have book three!

The author has put you right into the story so that you feel what the characters do and have you trying to figure out who the criminal is.  Mary Anne Edwards has done a fantastic job with this series and I look forward to reading more from her!

Criminal kind by Mary Anne Edwards starts out as a couple celebrates their honeymoon, on a cruise ship. When the woman next door dies of anaphylactic shock was it an accident or murder?  Being a detective Charlie McClung believes that it was a very careful murder, but with a cruise full of witnesses he has his work cut out for him. His new wife isn't letting Charlie get away without her.  A book full of lost lovers and cheating maids who could be the murderer?  How can Charlie solve the case and make his honeymoon with Marian one she will always cherish?   Can they figure out who murdered the up class woman before the cruise is over?

Murder mysteries aren't usually my thing but I have to say I was blown away with this book.  It was a well thought out, wonderfully written book. While full of twist and turns,  Marian is funny with her attitude wanting to have fun while everything was all serious, and lightens the mood considerably . I felt this book is better written then many, many other murder mystery books out there
